Is this dress too formal for Carnival's formal night on Carnival Liberty?

I've been on royal caribbean but never Carnival. I bought these two dresses on ebay and was wondering if they are too formal..

They are beautiful! I was on the Liberty a month ago (on an 8-day Caribbean cruise) and those who showed up to dinner in the dining room on formal night were dressed up. With those dresses you'll fit right in!

As far as cruise critc goes, it's very addicting! But it does hold a wealth of info.

P.S. Take me with you.. I want to go back!

No, they are beautiful and you will look great. Everybody gets dressed up like that. You will fit right in.

if you want the wow effect, go for the black dress...beautiful.

The first one is GORGEOUS! Love it! Neither one is too formal, you will have a BLAST!

those will be perfect, just enjoy yourself

I LOVE cruising and this is one of the reasons why...you get to dress up like a princess (or in my case a queen, since I am older) and have fun!

Enjoy, both dresses are beautiful.

Not too formal. You dress for dinner as if you're going to a wedding. Especially on formal nights.

Formal nights are the same for either ship. You will have people who dress like a princess (and be beautiful) and other who will wear what they wore the night before. Go ahead and have your princess moments, its one of the million reasons why cruising is so awesome. Have fun and enjoy being a princess

I'm afraid hose are a bit too formal for Carnival. Some people hardly even dress up at all. Maybe if you are going to Europe on Carnival those would be fine, but Mexico or the Caribbean I would say definitely find something a little less dressy. The first one is incredibly beautiful though. Anyways, if you are a guy and wondering if you should wear those... stick to a suit, okay? :)

Carnival is generally less formal than RCI, **but** either can be fairly formal depending on where you're cruising.

If you're going on a 7-day Caribbean, they're pretty formal, and the black one would definitely stand out. Some guys will be in tuxedos, but there will also be people in sun dresses.

But if you're going on a 12-day European cruise, people are MUCH more formal. So you could probably wear either and fit right in.

All that said ... is it bad to be "too" formal? I think both dresses are nice, and the black one is GORGEOUS!

Have a great trip!

p.s. If you'd like to share stories and pictures of your cruise online, you can get a Cruise Journal (it's free) here:

From my experience, most people won't be that dressed up on Carnival. And there will be people there in jeans and T-shirts, even though they say it's not allowed - they don't enforce the dress code. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't dress to the nines if you want. I agree that that black dress is gorgeous!!

If you want to save space in your luggage, though, I'd recommend a long black skirt or dress or pants that you can use with two different tops/jackets for the two formal nights. That would take up a lot less room.

If you aren't familiar with it already, I'd recommend a great site for lots of cruise info [including an entire topic on cruise fashion]. Go to CruiseCritic.com, click on "Boards" [and/or "Reviews"] then choose your topic.

Have a great time!
