I know there are lots of compliants about China, but how should we deal with these issues?
We are far from perfect, we are drying to solve the problems bit by bit..., it takes time and efforts.
What should we do? How?
I'm here to read and learn..., I won't give thumb down and I never report anyone, you are welcome to drop me a few lines. Thank you. Kanban...!
Nuke China wouldn't make it a better place to live and it would make the world be a worse place to live as well, do you know how distructive this idea is?
It is 00:42 a.m. here in China, I guess you are not in China and I feel thankful that we do not have such stupid person who occupies our space! I'm working here, in beijing. I really love it here. The food, the friendly people, the buildings. I just love them all! :)
What I don't like the most is the disparity between the rich and poor. It really sadden me. And sometimes I just cannot stand how some rich people always call poor people 'xiang xia ren' and kind of look down on them. I really hate it when people does that, what give them the right to look down on people just because they are born into a richer family? But of course, that are just the minority.
I think most importantly is to build more school (with better facilities) in the rural areas. Let the children have a better environment to study in. Afterall, Children are the future. With better education, wealth will increase and so will be living standard. I think this will improve the huge difference between the rich and poor.
Last time, there was a campaign to invite more volunteer to help in building a better studying environment for the children living in rural areas. A lot of people signed up, at the end of it, there are 2million people signed up! To date there are 20million such volunteers in China. I think it's a really good thing! The citizen should chip in to help as well. Together is strength.
To me, improve living standard of rural areas should be in priority.
But this seriously takes time and effort.
I hope I don't sound too naive here. Lol. :)
Edit: I really agree with chankljp! Creativity, something that Chinese lack, due to a too rigid study system.
I bet Kk D is just bkk. I am American and am opening an office in China in the next few months. I realy love the Chinese people, their graciousness, interesting points of views, etc.
I would love to see it made easier for Chinese people to visit the US and work for American companies. We could get to know each other so much better and both countries would benefit.
More laws on cleanliness would not hurt. I am not saying to convert China to a Singapore but right now some places are very nice and others need to be much cleaner.
I hope this is taken constructively. I wish the best for Chinese people always! By improving education and economy.
Currently China is just like Taiwan in the 60's and 70's. At that time, people were spitting, throwing trash, fighting to get on buses or trains, running red light (both vehicles and pedestrians), impolite, etc.
Through economical improvement, Taiwanese went overseas and saw how people in the civilized society behave, they learned and brought it back to Taiwan.
It is a long process. in big cities we have already run into young Chinese studied overseas, they behave the way they should be. With the Olympics and Shanghai EXPO, I think it would even speed up the process.
Professor Jin of People's University has a very good program on CCTV teaching people the Western manners. It would be great if that program can be shown to school students, we just have to start teaching them at a early age. I see the same thing happening here that I saw in the states, the increasing disparity between the rich and the poor. Beijing claims to be doing something about it, but I think it's just in the thinking stage.
I think one of the smartest things Beijing could do is limit the amount that CEO's can make to 1,000 time more then the lowest paid worker. And not allow stock holders to dictate what a company can do at the expense of the people. Also, to have enough regulations with things like public transportation and power that it keeps the costs low and affordable for the average person here.
The other is air pollution where I live. On some days its terrible. It's not so much the factories that are doing it here, there are not that many. It's the farmers surrounding the city that burn their fields after the crop has been harvested.
But I have to hand it to the local as well as the leadership in Beijing. They are heading in the right directions and I have faith that in some way or another, Beijing will do the right thing, albeit, it may not be my version, but they seem to do a good job looking at others mistakes and try not to repeat them here.

. Hello Aileen, it is Jim. I would start with my wife's home province of Shandong. I think that they need more hopitals and clinics to better serve the needs of the people. When I lived in China w/ my wife and two daughters, the problem was hospitals service. If you live in a big city, you are OK, but if you live in the countryside, the clinics are too small and cannot accomodate all of your needs. Northern and North west China has this issue...Yet the cities are developing beautifully, the small towns and country side still have issues. In smaller areas they need stop lights and crosswalks and public parks. China is my second home, when I retire I plan to live and die there. I have a lot of family members there (through marriage) To get to the point, I hope that China can improve its medical services and parks for children to play in...It will happen.濡傛灉鎴戞湁寰堝閽辩殑璇濇垜浼氭惉鍒版垜鐨勫瀛愮殑鏁呬埂鍘昏В鍐?.. Education and creativity. The education system that China is using right now is not promoting creativity. The system is just too totalitarian. In schools the teachers only let us do what they want us to do and we had to copy things from books word by word. This result in makeing us hard working and discipline but it also kill of our creative minds.
If China wise to be strong we really need to change the ways that schools and parents teach the kids. A few steps in the right direction:
Get filter for coal power plants
Have more atomic energy to get a handle on the energy shortages
Phase out sulfur diesel
introduce EURO standard for all cars and trucks ASAP
Introduce the "rule of law"
Introduce press freedom (China is in the bottom 10)
high fines for littering (look at Singapore, it worked) a lot to be done.......
1=corruption
2=Pollution
3=Hospitals Service
4=Education
5=Transportations
6=Safety Food Control
And stop building any more war machines.no countries sofar with intenion to invade china.ur country defend already secure by thousand nuclear warheads.
use the money instead for improvement of the poor. I would say improve human rights, however, with my current power, I wouldn't be able to do much.
What I can suggest is to use public transportation instead of a car. We need to reduce greenhouse gas as best as we can. The quality of air is getting worse. education is an important part of changing a country, start early and things will change in just one generation
teach them that it is okay for people to be rich and poor, that is life, but, it does not mean you should not give a helping hand, reach out to help the poorer people, donate, charities and such
teach about the pollution and garabage probems, use the TV to enducate people to clean up after themselves
teach them that life is more than just RMB, that it is filled with hope, happiness and they can have it without RMB
teach them that what they do just does not effect them, it effects everyone, what I ignore will come back around in some form to hurt me, my family and friends I've lived in Shanghai for 4 years, as well as Hong Kong and Urumqi. I really enjoy living here and I think China has a lot to offer, but The #1 thing I think would make China a better place to live is to start teaching everyone to look beyond themselves and start being concerned with others.
Because of some things that have happened in the last 70 years in China, people stopped looking out for others (not everyone of course, but I do see a large amount of people that don't). We need to teach people the "pay it forward" idea to life...Meaning if you do a good thing for someone it may promote them to do a good thing to someone else and so on and so forth. Instead of jumping in line...wait your turn; Instead of pushing, smile; If you see someone struggling , help them; don't just passively watch something bad happen and ignore it, jump in and actively help others.
This advice doesn't apply to China alone, in fact pretty much every country in the world would be better by thinking about others before themselves.
But I think by looking out for others first, it would eventually pan out into less pollution (people don't want to pollute if they are worried about others health), economy (people will be willing to spend more money if they feel security in their day to day life and don't feel the need to "get ahead' of others constantly), I could go on and on about the effects of kindness, but I think it would be great to start here. And it is something we can start as individuals (we don't have to wait for the government to change the laws or help us) and hopefully the idea spreads out. if the gov not lie to people and let the people talk what we want to talk.Then i think,the functions will be much effective to make a better China. NUKE IT! Cutting back on the infanticide couldn't hurt.
Edit: Edis, you do sound pretty naive. |
