How to get from Beijing to hong kong?

How to get from Beijing to hong kong. Just wondering how long would this take? methods of transport and how much will it cost? Also, what is the best time to visit these places?

Train is actually the best and cheapest way to travel in China. Hard seat class is sometimes dirty, but dirt cheap. In soft seat, hard sleeper and soft sleeper classes, the services is pretty decent. I never got ripped off, as the fare for all tickets is printed on the ticket itself, so there is NO way whatsoever that a foreigner will get charged more than a local. That was in the past, and it was actually the law: there was a price for locals, and a price for foreigners.

Train T97 (and T8 for HK-BJ) runs BJ-HK every second day only. T97 have 2-berth 'deluxe soft sleeper' (but without private toilet), 4-berth soft sleeper, hard sleeper & restaurant car. T29/30 & T15/16 have soft & hard class sleepers & restaurant car.

Departing from BJ, you should arrive at BJ West station 90 minutes before departure for passport control & exit formalities. Departing from HK, you should arrive at Kowloon's Hung Hom station 45 minutes before departure for passport control & exit formalities. In BJ, there is a ticket booth for foreigners. It used to be on the second floor, but it was on and off on the first floor last August. Look for it. In HK, you can find your way as if you were born there. Fare is 587CNY in hard sleeper (best deal for the money), 934CNY in soft sleeper. There is also a deluxe soft sleeper available, that cost 1191CNY. Not worth it.

The station in HK is in Kowloon and called 'Hung Hom'. It can help to know that the Chinese refer to Hong Kong/Kowloon as 'Jiulong'. You can check HK to BJ fares and train times (and book HK departures) at www.mtr.com.hk (click 'customer site' then 'intercity passenger services' then 'more information' & remember that HK is shown as 'Hung Hom'). Be warned, the BJ-HK through train is very popular, and gets booked up well in advance. There are also a range of daily air-conditioned trains between Guangzhou & HK, see www.kcrc.com for times, fares and online booking.

Hmmmm...does kcr still exist?

As far as time goes, it really depends on your method of travel. the cheapest would be by train ( its cheap but dirty, and have been known to harbor theifs), a bus is also a good option, if your willing to make lots of stops for food and maybe even a hotel. Those methods may take a couple of days but are relatively cheap.
My best advice for a foreigner is a plane, it may be expensive but its probably your best option . from my experience, an airport is the best way to travel because your less likely to get ripped off (money wise) the chinese tend to jack up prices for foreigners.

A cheap and fast way to get from Beijing to Hong Kong is to fly from Beijing to Shenzhen and then take a coach to Hong Kong. The flight from Beijing to Shenzhen is considered domestic and therefore much cheaper compared with flying to Hong Kong direct.
