If your already established there with friends, then let them see how your life is in Chicago. You can always check out movies, restaurants, clubs/bars, or chill at home and just enjoy each others company before they go back home. Hope you guys have fun.

Has your friend been to the Ba'hai temple in Winnetka?

Or you could take Metra (or maybe it's Amtrak) to Sheboygan, WI (I think it goes that far) and check out the parks where John Philip Sousa played his march music live. There's also a great hotel in Sheboygan called The American Club, built by the Kohler family (high-end plumbing, etc.).

Have you all checked out the Very First McDonald's restaurant in Des Plaines? It's a museum now.

There's some kind of World Religion Museum in the area... I can't remember the name, but ask around.

Have you checked out the Terra Museum? Unlike the Art Institute and the Field Museum, it's a small museum / gallery that's easily accessible on or near Lake Shore Drive.

You may be able to arrange a tour of the Chicago Tribune and see how the papers are made.

Just some thoughts.

Chicago is a city with nearly unlimited "touristy stuff" to do. Have you tried going to the Du Sable or Newberry museums?A walking architectural tours of Bronzenville and Hyde Park on the near South side? Try touring Taylor Street? Have you taken your friend to one of the many plays , or to a concert? I could go on, but I would need to know what your Friend or you are into.

Have him or her take you on a trip of his or her Chicago. In other words, have him or her show you his or her Chicago.
