Places to live??

Me and my friend are starting college next year and we are moving into an apartment....but i was wondering which neighborhoods are safe to live in the city?? which ones should we avoid?? thanks!!

somwehere in chicago...preferably close to either Loyola or DePaul

If you can afford it, there are plenty of apartments around the DePaul area. Loyola also has them, but the neighborhood's a bit trickier. Staying within 2 blocks of Sheridan and 5 blocks of the Loyola campus should do you fine. Lincoln Park is very safe with all the foot traffic, just stay in well-lit, well-traveled areas.

For Lincoln Park, the Chicago Reader newspaper is a great reference tool. There are also the standard Apartment Guide magazines that most big towns have. For Loyola, you are looking in the Edgewater/Rogers Park neighborhoods.

No place is safe near the city.

i dont know, ive never been to chicago(i live in oregon!), but the best i could suggest is to maybe ask around or observe specific neighborhoods.that might work.

Good Luck!!

check out the chicago reader, the tribune, and the red eye for apartments, also go to craigslist.

Make sure you find someplace close to the El or a bus station. Try lincoln park, roger's park, clark belmont area

I'd say it's best for you to stay on or near the red line, which is the main north/south train system.

To split the difference between Lincoln Park (DePaul) and Loyola (Edgewater), you should look at Lakeview (Belmont/Addison/Sheridan red line stops). It's a nice neighborhood with lots going on and is pretty safe. Also you might check out Uptown (Wilson red line stop), where the rent is slightly cheaper though the neighborhood can be a little sketchy after dark.
