I just moved to chicago from a small city down south but it is not working out. I cant get residency for schoo

so i cant get in state tuition for college. im 19 right now and i dont know anyone up here. not only that i was cursed at by a female police officer in chicago. i think im just gonna go back down south. any advice? my whole family is back down south.

I'm not sure how residency works, but it seems to me that if you live here (and work here), you qualify as a "resident". Where are you living? do you work? If you're paying taxes, you're a resident. and if you're living with someone, you can claim their home as you're official "residence" and become eligible. People do it all the time. There at teachers and police who live in the 'burb but somehow has managed to claim a place in Chicago as their residence (either a relatives home or a friend's) so that they can work for the city. Check with the school you are trying to attend to see what qualifies as "residency". I assume you're living SOMEWHERE here in the city and not in a cardboard box. You are a resident. Don't give up without a fight.

And forget about the police woman yelling at you. She's probably frustrated she's not getting any....

If you just moved there, consider giving it some more time. It's always hard for people to adjust when they move somewhere new and don't know anyone. It may take at least 2 yrs to get used to it.

But Chicago is a great city and give it a chance. Usually if you live somewhere for at least a yr, then you get in-state tuition prices....so maybe work for a yr ...meet some people and then go to a university. Otherwise, try a community college for a yr to save money then go onto a 4yr college.
