The best hostel is Quinta Hostel.

I stayed at Campo Base (there are two of them in Mendoza) when I was there. It was really fun! We were there during Halloween and the hostel staff got a huge asado (BBQ) and party going out between three hostels. They brought out face paints and masks and stuff and we all got dressed up. It was really a blast. They were also really great about organizing trips to vineyards, mountains, horseback riding, rafting, etc. I highly recommend it.

I honestly can't remember the bus we took from BA (Pullman, maybe?!), but it was only about 12 hours or so (I think) and I highly suggest upgrading to the full "cama" so that you can stretch out and get some sleep during the journey.
