Why do most Taxi Drivers in Bristol NOT put there meters on at NIGHT.?

I find this to be a rip off . I had to get a Taxi a few weeks ago from the Bristol centre to Whitchurch and was charged 拢20 ( on 2 occations )

I have sinse forund out that if they put there meter on it only comes to 拢12.80....

This ferm was the only one to put there meter on and quote a good price http://www.onthemeter.co.uk/ I will use them again and recomend them to anyone. It was a first class service.

So how come other Taxi companys don't offer this service

Hi, I live In Fishponds and have found this too. A taxi from the centre to fishponds is about 拢13, but ive been charged 拢19 or even 拢21 on one occasion. I refused to pay him that amount, I told I would pay 拢14, but not 拢21.

I dont often use taxis thankfully, but it does seem to be a rip off.

Make a complaint in writing to them and the council. Get their licence revoked. If they have one.

You have been ripped off and knowing the fare that is all you should have paid.Pay now argue later thing. You can report the matter to the Local Council and they should take it up on your behalf.

Yes a real rip off. You might find that after a certain hour the fare charge is negotiable and if the meter is off when you hail the cab then the time to establish the fare is at the kerb before you get in. The driver should have a badge or licence so be sure to take a note of it if you can. If you feel hard done by then take the licence and registration number of the taxi and notify the council department responsible for the licencing and maybe they will help.

Taxi drivers are REQUIRED by law to run the meter. If they do not turn on the meter, they have no authority to charge you for the ride.

The reason some choose to do this is because it removes the "evidence" that the ride has taken place. Less evidence means less taxes paid, and in some companies, less money for the company.

You can demand they put it on. I used to be a taxi driver so i know.

Because they want to rip you offff

Just refuse to pay. They have no authority to charge you if their meter is not turned on.
