Depending on what part of Essex you want to go to I would say around 170 miles. I also come from Bristol, it's definately not 60 miles as it's the other side of London and London is around 110 miles away and it's M4 not M5!

i imagine that roughly it's 180 to 280 miles as if you go from bristol to swindon thats 40 miles then to london thats ninety which is 130 miles then to essex which at most is probably about another 100 miles away making it 230 miles.if you want to know a precise answer then google your question and if that dosen't work then you can visit the AA website and on their there are the best and quickest routes for journeys all over the uk.

i drove from Essex to Bristol, from the Junction of M25 J31 (lakeside Thurrock)to Bristol via M25 and M4, took me 4 hours going by car total distance 175 miles, coming home took 6 hours. as it all depends on the traffic. but if your going to somewhere like Colchester add about another 90 mins. it all depends where in Essex your going to?

Culturally speaking, I would suggest that Essex and Bristol are worlds apart
