What do those of you who have knowledge of East Boston, MA think of this neighborhood? |
Thanks for any attention that you can give to this question. I find it a very pleasant place, the planes notwithstanding. Clark vastly overestimates the Hispanic influx - lots of Italo Americans still live there as do other long time residents and there is a colonial brick architecture section as well that will remind one of Beacon Hill - but the Hispanic immigrants are enough to bring with them their zest for life and a lot of good, cheap ethnic restaurants. There also has been an influx of Brazilians and Vietnamese. Clark's bitching about the tunnel tolls is also extreme; driving into downtown Boston is often the pits, and there is convenient Blue Line subway service. I am a Bostonian. East Boston is probably the most diverse neighborhood in the city, besides Jamaica Plain. It used to have alot of Italians, now its nothing but spanish immigrants. I am not too fascinated by East Boston. One reason being is travel commute by car to Boston (The city) to East Boston (the neighborhood), you literally have to take a tunnel each time and pay money even though you are a resident of Boston. Second reason is the airport is right in your backyard. Its an okay neighborhood, but there is better neighborhoods in Boston, that I consider to be a diamond in the rough. But better bang for your buck, like Roxbury, Dorchester, or Jamaica Plain I think its a great neighborhood , its diverse and for the most part nice, a i live right next to maverick station so the transportation is good too , its only about a 10 min train ride into downtown. |
