Want to go to Boston for vacation and need to know where to go, not to go and the best places to stay!!!? |
Heading out in May and hopefully will catch a game at Fenway. Want to head up the coast as well to check out the sticks in mass. As far as getting there Jetblue is by far the cheapest but when there can any of you shed some light on the sights? Not just touristy spots but real boston. Then as far as going up the coast to martha's vineyard and all what's the best bet? Any places not to go or areas to stay clear of? thanks. I am a graduate student in one of Boston's many colleges. If you want to check out Boston. I would definitely start with Faniuel Hall. This is sort of touristy but if you are coming all this way I would definitely head there. There are many Irish Pubs in that area that are always good to stop in for a beer or two. I always and still like to go to the Black Rose. Also you should check out the North End. It is the Italian area of Boston and you can grab something very yummy to snack on at one of the many bakeries. Mike's is the big touristy bakery in the North End. It is good, but I also enjoy the pasteries at Bovas which is down the street. If you like to shop you should head to Newbury St. I also like to walk around the beacon hill area and around the Boston Commons. Lots of people but walking down the streets takes me back in time. You can always head over to Cambridge by crossing the Charles. Harvard Square is touristy but you will find lots of locals and colleges students hanging out. If you want to head up the north you will find many small towns and fishing villages along route 1 and route 1a such as Rockport, Glouster, and newbury port. If you want to head to Martha's Vineyard you are going to have to head south down route 3 towards Cape Cod. If this is the way you go you can stop in Plymouth and I would suggest stopping in Flamouth and Woods Hole (where you can catch a ferry to the Vineyard). Downtown Falmouth has some great restaurants. like sweet tomatoes for a good pizza and box lunch for a great wrap or sandwich. If you are need to grab a beer in Falmouth I love Liam McGauires. In season this pub/ resteraunt can be packed but locals come out for great Irish Music from Liam himself or other preformers. If you are heading out from Woods Hole I would stop by the Leeside for a beer or something great to eat. hi I lived in boston all my life-8months when i moved to atlanta i am 41 years old and take it from me do not hang out in mattapan , roxbury and surrounding areas unless you have a bullet proof vest my car was shot at driving thru roxbury to get to down town boston you need to go to mathas vinyard much better, just stay around fanual hall area believe me, good luck, and if you have a bullet proof vest bring it |
