What are some interesting airplane and airport conversations?

I am writing an article and would like your input. If you travel a lot, what are some conversation starters for meeting people beside "Where are you from?" or "What do you do?"
What are some interesting discussions you have had to pass the time away?

I always ask if the person next to me is from the place that we're going. If they are I ask what things I should definately see/do in their city and what things are over rated or that I should avoid.

I've also talked with people about their intrests, places they've visited, movies, tv shows, just about anything.

A lot of conversations start up by people borrowing each other's newspaper sections. And yeah, most of the conversation is about what people do and what happens in their city.
