How can I switch airlines from United?

I'm flying with United at the end of the month, and I'm very uneasy about it.. I don't want my luggage lost and every bad thing about flying seems to be with them.

Is there any way I can switch airlines? I'm absolutely paranoid about this. It's in a few weeks so I do have a bit of time.

Thank you!

If you have a nonrefundable ticket (and you almost certainly do unless it was very expensive), then you cannot change it.

On the other hand, don't lose any sleep over it. The chance of your bag getting lost is very low. It's true that United isn't a very good airline, but neither are most domestic airlines. Customers demand cheap flights and all of the airlines have eliminated customer service in order to reduce prices. If you could switch, the next carrier probably wouldn't be any better.

I always take a change of clothes in my carry-on bag along with anything that I can't afford to lose (medication, spare pair of glasses, etc.) regardless of the airline - just in case.

have you paid for your ticket?
you could cancell your reservation but and try to get a refund
(unlikely) unless you bought a full fare ticket or you could
hold on to your ticket for furture travel
another idea is try to get it endosed over to another airline
(but you will probally need a paper ticket for this)
and they will charge for it
now where you flying?
now also be advise that sometime a UA flight is not on United
but a codeshare airline
(like a flight from Lax to Charlotte -that flight is operated
by US air not united (and its a US air crew and airplane
(so whats your flight number?

I don't know of any airline that has never lost luggage. Switching airlines is most likely going to cost you, unless you got a refundable ticket. If you can, pack everything into a small suitcase that you can bring on board with you....so you don't have to check anything. Like the other poster said, depending on where you are going, it could be a codeshare flight, operated by another airline. You will be fine.

In the US, don't expect one airline to be much better than the rest. I personally feel most comfortable with United!

You definitely don't want to wait till closer. Planes are filling up which means less space available. Airlines will jack those prices sky high. Buy as far in advance as you.
