Southwest Airlines lowered the cost of my ticket after I bought it- can I cancel and rebuy?

In January Southwest was having some sale and it seemed like a good price. I got one way from Tulsa to Houston for $79. Now they are listing the same flight for $65. I know my money cannot be refunded because I picked the lowest category, but it says I can cancel and get credit for a "later flight". Can I cancel, get credit, and rebook the same flight keeping the $14 credit? Please Advise!

You're right, you cannot get a refund on the remainder, but you can rebook the flight online (or call the 800 number) and use the reservation number to pay for the new flight. The remainder will remain as a credit and you have 1 year from the date of original purchase to use that money.

Southwest has a very simple fare structure; the only restrictions on their fares are that you have to travel on that specific itinerary.

I don't think you can and it's only $14 anyway

ask the southwest ticket agent if you could get credit
for the $14.00 (couldn't hurt to ask!) but you are sure
the flight is now 65 (it might have more restrictions
then the fare you have)
Like perhaps you can only fly on July 4 during a snowstorm in the summer or you can only fly on Feb 29 in the years its not a leap year) <grin>

jBo is right, but let me just add that you need to check whether or not the $65 fare is before or after taxes.

taxes can add up to nearly $20 extra.
