Please Help! Has anyone travelled with a cat on a plane?

I am moving to France and am taking my 6 month old cat from the UK. Has anyone travelled with British Airways or Air France with a cat (or dog)? What are the requirements and measurements of a carrier or kennel? I know it can't be too small or too big but nowhere does it tell me the approved measurements.

If no one has travelled with these airlines but has travelled by air with a cat do you know what the guidelines for the carrier was?

A flight from the UK to France should not be very long so taking her in the cabin with you may be the best way to go. The crate has to be large enough for her to be able to stand up and turn around. Since it's a kitten that won't be hard to do. If kitty goes in the cabin with you the carrier has to fit under the seat.
The airline web site should have information you need.

Good luck with kitty. My two have flown several times.

Yeah, i lice in the United States though..i flew from Pennsylvania to California. I just put his cage under the seat in front of me.

Usually your cat can travel with you in the passenger cabin if you follow certain rules. Cats in the passenger cabin must remain in a safe kennel (carrier) that's placed under the seat in front of you. If you want your cat to fly in the passenger cabin with you, make your reservations as early as possible because airlines restrict the number of pets allowed in the passenger cabin of each flight. In addition, if you're traveling with your cat, the clerk needs to assign you a seat with enough room for your cat. The space under the aisle seats can be narrower than the space under the center and window seats. Some airlines don't allow passengers with pets to sit in an exit row. Therefore, if you don't register early, the flight may be either closed to additional pets, or they may not have a seat left with enough room for your cat.

-Hope that helped

I have travelled cross country with a cat. Not on the airlines you mentioned. What I did was use their approved carrier which was cardboard and obtainable right at the ticket counter. It wasn't expensive, and that way I didn't have to run around trying to find something to meet their specs. I spoke with a vet, and we kind of forced the cat to take a half aspirin which pretty much put him out for the flight.

I've only flown with in the US with a dog, but these are some things you should keep in mind regardless of where you're flying. As for the carrier, you should call the airline to find out what their requriements are, but I've often seen people using soft sided sherpa bags (the often look like a small square duffle bag w/ mesh inserts).

This is some advice I gave someone else. Subsitute cat for dog:
Most airlines charge for cabin pets and limit the number of cabin pets per flight. You will need to contact your airline for specifics, but it's usually around $50-100 each way.

You will also need an airline approved carrier for your dog (which does count as one of your carry ons), and a health certificate issued from your vet dated no more than 14 days prior to flight. The health certificate usually runs about $40 (at least it does at my clinic). You will also need to make sure your dog is current on it's vaccines, and carry a copy of it's rabies certificate (you get this when your dog is vaccinated, if you need a copy, your vet will give you one)

Since you'll be taking your dog out of country, you also need to check on what the quarentine regulations are for the country you are going to, and get your paperwork, fees, and vaccine requirements started as soon as possible.

Keep in mind that most airports are not pet friendly. There are very few, if any, potty places at most airports. You will need to limit your dog's food and water intake for at least 12 hours prior to flight so your dog won't need to potty. Your dog will have to stay in it's carrier while you are in the terminal and throughout the duration of your flight.

If your dog becomes disruptive during the flight you can, and possibly will be removed from the flight.
