How early/late is best for best price on airfare?

I'm flying soon, wondering in general if it's true that best pricing tends to occur between 14-21 days from date of departure.

Thanks

Look Wednesday night or Tuesday night after midnight. Trust me, it is worth staying awake for. That is when most airlines set new prices, and the sooner you get in on them, the better. If you have 21-14 days out, it really doesn't matter about what day is better.
Also, try Jet Blue,
air Tran, Spirit Airlines or call the terminal information at your local airport (not airline customer service!!-- think the booth that lost and found items are turned in to ). ask terminal information booth for a list of airlines that fly out. They will rattle off the top three or four, but make sure to get a complete list. for example, I live in AZ. We have your typical airlines, but then we have smaller carriers (Mesa Air, Spirit,). People don't check those airlines as often, thus they are less filled flights and usually I find more flexable and cheaper fares.

I am sure you may have heard of looking for a sister airport and checking fares there too.. For example, San Fransisco is traditionally more expensive than Oakland or San Jose. I don't mind the extra 30 minute drive to save $100. Especially when I am driving through the city anyway. but I also have a secret.. We have smaller airports here, usually local small planes fly in and out, (like small 4 seater cesnas and helicopters). I called them, just to see and found that one of them, Mesa Air has regular sized planes and tickets abou $200 less... so can you honestly imagine a ticket that goes anywhere for $50? I've flown it. Less traffic, less fees, Less taxes and better service. All because I checked on something out of the box. and BTW-- mesa airlines flys out of Sky Harbor International Airport too, so I didn't feel like it was some shoddy project plane they put me on. it was just flying off a different runway in a separate location.

Uh, try the red eye,works....

honestly, last minute flights are the cheapest, but not always a guarentee. When I booked a flight to Vegas we watched the prices everyday for two weeks, and ended up booking 2 months in advance (but that was over 7-7-07 too). The red I flights are cheap too
